According to PCB Chairman Sheharyar Khan, Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be held in Qatar next year while its preparations are in progress. The grounds of UAE have already been booked due to which PCB experts selected Qatar for this tournament. Qatari government is also helping them and they will try to organize this tournament in Pakistan later. He told that Pakistan can get financial benefit after one year. PCB has already sent MoU for approval to the Qatari officials while a proposal has also been sent to the Qatari Olympic Association with demand for the upgrade of country’s only cricket ground. Hopefully, the PSL will be played in Qatari capital Doha next year in February.
UAE is the alternative home ground of PCB since 2009 where Pakistan has played almost all its matches due to which the initial plan was to organize PSL in UAE. Administration of all the grounds of UAE are in the hands of English Cricket Board (ECB) and when PCB contacted ECB for this matter they informed them that these grounds have already been booked in February for masters Champions League (MCL). The announcement about this league was made in a ceremony on Burj Al Arab on 3rd June in which Adam Gilchrist, Brian Lara and Wasim Akram also participated. Due to this reason, ECB refused to give these grounds to PCB for the organization of PSL.
Now Doha could be a new home ground of Pakistan for it’s a team, U-19 and women team matches. The matter about PSL could not be finalized ever while the plan of this league came forward from PCB five years before. Now the new draft system has been made according to which there will be total 5 franchise teams and the best players will be divided among these teams.
