Boxer M Ali dies aged 74

After a short illness, famous American boxer M Ali dies at the age of 74. According to US media, M Ali was under treatment for few days due to respiratory problems in a hospital of US city Phoenix.

In Kentucky’s city Louisville, M Ali born in a Christian family while Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. was his initial name. He won the Olympic gold medal in 1960 in Rome to get fame but he threw his medal in river when he could not get a job in his city due to his color. But he continued his boxing successes despite this treatment.

M Ali refused to join US Army during Vietnam War after which he was deprived of his award and given punishment for 5 years. But due to public protest, the punishment was later pardoned.

He again achieved popularity after defeating George Foreman in 1974 at the age of 32. He became only second person to win this award twice. In 1975, he converted to Islam and M Ali Clay became his new name. In 1978, he lost the title against his 12 years younger opponent Leon Spinks but he later defeated Spinks 8 months later. Winning the award 3rd time was a record at that time.

In 1980, doctors found that he is a patient of Parkinson syndrome which ended his career while he was the most famous person in world at that time. Even today, Muslims and black people respect him. During 20 years of his career, M Ali won 56 matches including 37 knock outs but he will ever be known as a great person.
