Serena defeated her elder sister Venus Williams in the quarter final of US Open Tennis tournament to reach the semi final where she will face Roberta Vinci of Russia. If Serena wins US Open then she will be the second only female player after Steffi Graph to win four grand slam titles in a year. Men’s World number 1 Novak Djokovic and defending champion Marin Cilic have reached the semi final stage. Roberta Vinci has reached the semi final stage for the first time after defeating Mladenovic of France.
In doubles’ matches, the world no. 1 pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis defeated the pair of Chinese Taipei to reach semi final round where they will play against the Italian pair of Sara Errani and Flavia Pannetta. In the Men’s quarter final, Croatian star Marin Cilic defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France while Serbian star Novak Djokovic reached quarter final after defeating Feliciano Lopez.
