Pallekele, Australia and Sri Lanka played the first T20I match at Pallekele international cricket ground in which Australia beat Sri Lanka by 85 runs and lead the series by 1-0. In this T20I series, two matches are going to play and the first match is played and both the teams will have to play another T20I match.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first and invited Australian side to bat first. Australia started their innings with their openers David Warner and Glenn Maxwell. The captain Warner scored only 28 runs and Maxwell not only scored century but also made the record 145 runs on just 65 balls, in which 14 fours and nine sixes are also included. Usman Khawaja scored 36 runs, and Matthew Head scored 45 runs. The Australian side scored highest 263 runs, which is new world record as the previous world record is 260 runs, which Sri Lanka scored against Kenya.

But Sri Lanka lost some early wickets and it managed to score only 178 runs in 20 overs, in which the highest run scorer was Captain Dinesh Chandimal, who made 58 runs. Chimara Kapugadera scored 43 runs and Kushal Mandis scored only 22 runs. The leading wicket takers of Australia were Scott Boland and Mitchell Starc, who took three wickets each. Now Australia won this T20I match and Maxwell was declared the man of the match on this wonderful performance during the match.
