Headingly, West Indies and England played the second test match at Headingly, Leeds in which West Indies beat England by 5 wickets and leveled the test series between the two countries by 1-1. When the second test match was started on 25 August, England started its first inning and they scored 258 runs in which the century of Ben Stokes was also included. No other English batsman could play well and made the remarkable runs. The WI pacers Gabriel and Roach claimed 4 wickets each.

Then West Indian cricket team chased the first inning total and they made 427 runs and got the lead of 169 runs on England. KC Braithwaite scored 134 runs and SD Hope made 147 runs, who were the main contributors of their team. Blackwood scored 49 runs and Holder made 43 runs. James Andersen, the English pacer claimed 5 wickets. When English team started their second inning, they scored 490 runs for the loss of eight wickets and they declared the inning and gave the target of 322 to West Indies to chase it. There were six fifties in the innings of English team. Stoneman, JE Root, DJ Malan and Moin Ali made 52, 72, 61 and 84 runs in their innings respectively while Stokes repeated his performance by making 58 runs in the second innings also. Chris Woakes also played well and he scored 61 runs in his inning.

When West Indies started its inning, they had to make 322 runs and they successfully completed their target. The wonderful inning of 118 runs of Shai Hopes and 95 runs of KC Braithwaite were included in their innings. Blackwood made 41 runs in the second inning and in this way, West Indies won the second test match against England. Shai Hope was declared the man of the match for making tons on both innings of the second test match.
