Due to slow over rate, Pakistani captain Azhar Ali has been suspended for one match by ICC. Apart from that, 40% match fee will be deducted from Azhar Ali while 20% match fee from other players. This suspension is the result of non completion of overs in the last ODI match against Australia in the allotted time. At the end of time, Pakistan team was 2 overs behind. Azhar will miss first match of the West Indian tour in April 2017 if he remains captain till then.

Slow over rate twice in 12 months is the reason behind this punishment. Before that on 31st January 2016, Azhar was fined 20% of match fee due to slow over rate in the match against New Zealand while he was fined complete match fee against New Zealand in Hamilton in November 2016 while he was captain of the team in place of Misbah.

Australian tour was a difficult one for Azhar as he suffered hamstring injury during 1st match against Australia in which he scored 24 runs. He missed the next two matches due to this injury and could only score 7 runs in 4th match and 6 runs in 5th match of the series.
